Syvonz Denotra Robinson Brown

Syvonz Denotra Robinson Brown, quietly entered into eternal rest at the age of 39 on Sunday, July 22, 2018.  She was born on January 16, 1979, to Diane B. Robinson and Clifford E. Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 18 years, George E. Brown, three daughters, Quatazia Robinson Brown, Savonte Robinson Brown, La’Precious Robinson Brown; two grandchildren, Ava Brown, and Aiden Brown; sister, Ursula David;  two brothers, Clifford Antonio Robinson and Tremayne Lynn Robinson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, one devoted cousin Felicia Ramadan, numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.

She joined Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. She also was a member of the usher’s board. She attended Goochland schools. She was a cheerleader with the GYAA Group of Goochland, and she loved shopping.

Homegoing service will held August 2, 2018, at 2pm, at Antioch Baptist Church. Interment private. Family will receive friends August 1, 2018, at 8pm, F. E. Dabney Funeral Home Chapel.

Michael Anthony Waller

Michael Anthony Waller 54, of Hanover County departed his life on January 24, 2018. He was born to the late Edward and Bernice Waller. He was preceded in death by his sister’s, Carnell Waller, Sandra Waller, and his brother, Alvin Waller.

Michael joined, Union Baptist Church, at an early age and he attended, Hanover Public School. Michael worked at Robert Brickley Industries for over five years. He was a very friendly and outgoing person who loved to party and he got along with everybody. Y’all know he loves him some pig feet.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Bernice Waller and Wendy Terry (Travis), of Richmond, Va; four brothers, James Waller, of Beaverdam, Va, Wallace Waller, of Bowling Green, Va, Edward Waller Jr. (Ernestine), of Doswell, Va, and Alvin Johnson, of Richmond, Va; one aunt, Arlena Ross, of Ashland, Va.; four uncles, Dempsey Coles and Milburn Coles, of Louisa, Va; Lawson Coles and David Waller, of Spotsylvania, Va; and one devoted friend and cousin, Earl Waller, of Spotsylvania, Va; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Homegoing service will be Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 2 p.m., at F. E. Dabney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment private.

Benjamin Franklin Taliaferro Jr.

Taliaferro, Jr., Benjamin Franklin (also known as “Benny” and “Ben, Jr.”) 64, of Ashland, Va. transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, January 21, 2018. He is preceded in death by his mother Clara H. Taliaferro, his maternal grandparents Iretha and Frank Hewlett and paternal grandparents Eleanor and James Taliaferro. He was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, Virginia where he was the founder and member of “Sounds of Faith Gospel Choir” for 36 years. He is a 1972 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended Tuskegee University and VCU.
His love for people led him to his employment at CARITAS and the Salvation Army. He was a passionate, gifted musician and phenomenal vocalist who had the opportunity to minister to various churches, organizations and celebrations throughout Virginia.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving father, Benjamin F. Taliaferro, Sr., a devoted sister Robin R. Taliaferro, uncle James H. Taliaferro; devoted cousins Diane H. Pierce, H. Charleen Baylor and Bernice Lauritta Anderson; a godson Nile Courtney and his mother Debra Webb and a host of cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, Virginia at 1:00 P.M.; Rev. M. Randall Williams, Pastor, Eulogist; Officiant, Rev. Dr. C. Diane Mosby. Viewing will be Friday, January 26, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.

William Rayfield Hooker

William Rayfield “Ray” Hooker, was born September 6,  1935 in Hanover County went from Labor to Reward on Monday, January 1st of 2018 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. Preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Larvinia Hooker; brothers, Welford and Conway Hooker.

He graduated from Gandy High School in Ashland, Va and then served in the U.S. Armed Forces. He retired from American Machine and Foundry (AMF) after twenty years of employment.  Ray was very well known throughout the surrounding counties fir hos electrical and plumbing expertise.

He was married to the late Dorothy G. Hooker.  From this union 1 daughter was born, Tina Andre Hooker; 1 devoted brother, Deacon James E. Hooker (Shirley); 2 cousins, Earl G. Winston Sr. and John “Benny” Jones (Antoinette); a host of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; a companion, Flora Cornwell; a host of friends, among them; Lawrence Campbell, James Winston. John “Sonny” Lewis, Lee “Buck” Brooks Jr., and Frank Robinson.

Homegoing services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, at 12 noon, at Abner Baptist Church, Glen Allen, VA. Interment, Roselawn.

Clara Hewlett Taliaferro

20180102_121759_1514920197483Clara Hewlett Taliaferro, 94, of Ashland, VA, departed this life on Saturday, December 30, 2017. She was born on August 5, 1923 to the late Iretha Brown Hewlett and Frank Hewlett.  She was the first of two children.  Clara was preceded in death by her brother William Frank Hewlett.

Clara was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 80 years. She served as the Head of the Willing Workers, Head of Hospitality, Head of Missionaries, a member of the Pastors Aide, and Founder of the Friendly Circle.

Clara attended Hanover Public Schools and graduated from Hanover Training School.  She then worked as a supply clerk at the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, VA until her retirement.

On February 5, 1952, Clara was joined in holy matrimony to Benjamin Taliaferro Sr.  To this union were born two children, Robin Taliaferro and Benjamin Taliaferro Jr.

Clara loved participating in church activities, shopping, and watching TV.

Clara leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 65 years, Benjamin Taliaferro Sr.; her two children, Benjamin Jr. and Robin; brother-in-law, James Taliaferro; her goddaughter/niece, Diana (Raymond); her devoted friends, Sylvia Robinson (Reynolds) and Georgia Lee Stephens; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Homegoing service is Thursday, January 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, VA. Interment, Church Cemetery.

Henry “Sweetpea” Gray Toliver

1021171132bHenry ”Sweetpea” Gray Toliver departed this life peacefully on Wednesday October 18, 2017 at The Wayland House, in Mechanicsville, VA. He was born on December 24, 1934 in Hanover County, VA to the late, Mildred Ann Toliver.

Henry grew up in Hanover, VA and he attended Hanover County Public Schools. He accepted Christ at an early age. Henry was employed by Randolph Macon College as a grounds keeper. He enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged and later became employed by Haley Construction where he was employed for 30 years until he retired.

Henry was a man of little words but loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed riding his moped, reading the newspaper, working in the yard, and doing seek and find puzzles. He would go to McDonald’s every morning to meet and drink coffee with a group of retired buddies until his health began to fail. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Jaylen who could always put a smile on his face even when he wasn’t feeling well.

Henry leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife Jean, one daughter Latasha(George), one grandson Jaylen, two sisters, Linda Thompson Jordan and Barbara Ann Toliver of Richmond VA, two brothers, Ronnie Thompson and Roger Thompson(Tria) of Richmond VA, one devoted friend Matthew Folley; a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Homegoing service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 12 Noon, at Shiloh Baptist Church,  106 S James St., Ashland, Va, 23005. Interment, Roselawn Memory Gardens. Rev. L. Randall Williams, Officiating.

David Fitzgerald Foster

image0000001David Fitzgerald Foster, a loving husband, father, son and friend slipped quietly into eternal rest on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Spotsylvania Medical Hospital.

He was born March 12, 1971 in Caroline County to the Late Earnest A. Foster and Christine Smith Foster. He was preceded in death by his brother Avrion Smith and Uncle Delwin Foster.

On March 27, 1995 he met the love of his Gladys P. Jackson. These two hearts were inseparable, so on June 24, 2006 they were joined in Holy Matrimony.

 David greatest joy in life was his family, friends, and seeing a smile on everyone’s face.  He loved cooking and taking care of his children. David was a quiet and peaceful man. Whenever you came into his presence you had a friend. He was short in statue but big at heart.. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 11 years Gladys Foster, Four beautiful daughters, Da Creasha Foster, Brittany Brown, Tashada and Jakyia Foster, Two grandchildren, Tristan Robinson and Semajae Hewlett. Mother, Doris Thompson(David) two sisters Tonya Parker(Jerry) and Octavia Foster of Connecticut, six brothers Gregory Solmon, Dwayne Foster,(Tracy) Andre Harris, George Stevens, Michael Stevens, and Renese Smith all of Richmond, Virginia. Two Uncles, one devoted Alvin Bernard Foster and Jarrod Smith (Sabrina), Grandmother, Virginia Smith (Jeremiah) Father in law, Perry Jones (Margaret) Five Aunts, Brenda Darlene Hackett (Tyrone) Melinda Karen Patterson (Patrick) Barbara Dabney, Julia King and France Smith, Five Sister in Laws, Linda Fahey (John) Karen Rock (Joseph), Telka Smith, one devoted Darlene Jones, One devoted brother in law Steven Jones. Devoted friends Mark Nelson, Aleta Lewis, and Margaret Jones. Devoted cousins, Zynator Hearn (Shawn), Reshima Christian (Donny), Warren Foster, LeeAnte Foster and Lynette Bowman, and a host of other relatives and friends.
