Waverly O’Brien Tarrer

Waverly O’Brien “Web” Tarrer son of the late Mary Tarrer of Ashland Va, and the late Thomas Twiggs of Ruther Glen departed this life Thursday, March 22, 2018 after a long term illness.
Waverly was born in Ashland Va on May 1 1957. Waverly joined Providence Baptist Church in Ashland Va at an early age and later joined First Baptist Church South Richmond Va.
Waverly attended Hanover County Public Schools. Waverly worked as a certified auto mechanic in the Hanover and Henrico areas for the past 40 years. He married Andrea Jones of Ashland Va in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Tarrer and father Thomas Twiggs. Grandmother Gladys Tarrer and aunt Janet Peterson. Uncle Hubert Tarrer Sr.
Waverly leaves to cherish his memory his wife Andrea Jones Tarrer; two daughters Stacey Tarrer Biteye(Mamadou); Tamika Pomphay Thompson (Raymond), grandsons Jaziah “Duke”, Anthony and Elijah, granddaughters Makiyah, Karesha, Ja’Nay, Zaniyah and Azariah, brothers Michael Tarrer Sr. (Barbara), Robert Tarrer(Vanessa), special aunts Sophie Moses (Alvin), Edith Trent, Bessie Braxton, and Diane Tarrer, uncle Charles Tarrer and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Homegoing services Thursday March 29 at the First Baptist Church, decater street, South Richmond. Interment Roselawn Memory Garden, Glen Allen Va.

Nellie Beatrice Tarrer

Nellie Beatrice Tarrer was born on February 22, 1940 to the late William “Jack” Tarrer and Mary A. Pollard. She was preceded in death by her brother Edmund “Frog” Pollard. She was educated in Hanover County Public Schools.
She joined Calvary Episcopal Church at an early age where she attended and served faithfully. Nellie retired from Randolph Macon College after 29 years of service.
She loved to listen to her music “105.7 DJ Drake”. She also loved to shop, cook her greens and hit the casino.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughter Vinetta T Goodall (Calvin), her granddaughters Venetia (Phillip) and Cadrea Goodall. Step grandson Jerell Jones. Her sister Gladys Dabney (Leslie), her brothers Lewis Pollard Sr. (Jane), Samuel Pollard (Sherrilynn), Harvey Pollard (Beverly), Loving and devoted friends Richard Tucker, Matthew Follie, Keisha Bell, Joan Anderson, and Ann Marie Tunstall. Godson Jeffrey Pollard Jr, devoted cousin Mable Cousins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Homegoing services Monday March 19 11 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church Ashland Va. Interment Roselawn Memory Garden.

Bernice Fields Anderson

Bernice F. Anderson, was born to the late Thomas and Wilberta Fields on Aug 18, 1928. She was one of 13 children. She leaves to cherish her memory one brother Robert Fields(Gloria). Five sisters: Alice Dodson(Charles), Helen Nelson, Irene Clarke, Earline and Geraldine Fields. One aunt, Fannie Woolfolk, one brother in-law Charles Dodson. One daughter in-law Delois Anderson, Two sister in-law, Gloria and Clarissa Fields, best friend Jane Anderson, grandchildren, great grandchildren along with other relatives and friends including her devoted niece Lola Williams.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Jesse Snead and Barbara Anderson. Four brothers: Thomas Jr., David Sr., Timothy Sr., and Jamie Fields. She married the late LLoyd Anderson Sr. and had one son LLoyd Jr.”Juney”. Bernice loved her family dearly. If you would sit and talk with her she would always bring up something about the family and what was going on. She had fond memories of her upbringing talking about her momma and papa. Bernice will be missed dearly.

Curtis Peatross

Curtis Eric Peatross, affectionately known as “Gunsmoke”, entered his life May 5, 1959 and went home to be with our father March 6, 2018. He accepted Christ and became an active member of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He graduated from Bowling Green High School and furthered his education with various vocational programs.
A reliable hardworking man, he worked at Richfood for 27 years, where he formed many lifetime friendships that became family. On October 16, 1981, he married his high school sweetheart.
From this union they were blessed with two children, Curtis and Morishita, that they loved dearly.
He was a man of strength and loved his family and friends. He had a passion for grudge racing. He loved fishing and the Redskins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, parents, Lewis and Shirley Peatross.
He leaves to cherish his memories one son, Curtis Peatross (Temeka); one daughter, Morishita Peatross; nine grandchildren: Jahmal, Jaida, Jaquan, Chloe, Charlynd, Zhana, Christian, Journee, and Raja. Parents in laws, Charlie and Viola Ross; brother, Daryl Peatross (Alicia); two sisters in laws, Ruth Quash (Raymond) and Diana Green (Roy); aunts Anna Moore, Virginia Mills, and Carla Peatross; uncles Larry Peatross (Cindy), Chris Peatross, Walter Moore (Barbara), and Edward Dodson. Along with other relatives and friends. Service Sunday 3/11/2018 2pm 2ND Mt. Zion Bapt.

Services for Slandon Goodall will be Sunday March 4th, 1pm at Second Mt.Zion Baptist Church, Dawn Va.
Slandon eased away from us in the midst of the night for God knows whats always right. Slandon became tired and had nothing but love to share; God calmed the storm to take him there.
Slandon Eugene Goodall was born on April 21, 1967 to Marian Goodall and the late Frank Goodall.
Slandon gave his life to Christ at an early age. He attended Caroline County Public Schools.
All those who knew him knew he was outgoing, full of fun and jokes. He was loving, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Slandon leaves to cherish his memory his mother Marian Goodall. One son Isiah Green, two sisters; Irish Edwards (Christopher) and Melita Goodall. One brother Alonzo Harris(Vierlena)Two nieces; Slandra and Frankia Goodall. Five nephews; Zorell Harris, Montray, Javon, Dion, and Ohage Goodall. One great nephew Treshawn Goodall, one great niece Javesia Goodall, one brother in-law, one sister in-law, four aunts; Clara, Gloria, Betty, and Frances. Four uncles; Kenny, Moses, James and Dennis. Three great aunts; Jane Anderson, Margaret Lewis, and Viola Ross. Two great uncles; Edmund Baylor and Charlie Ross. Three devoted friends; Gavron Few and Evelyn Green and Shelia Tillman Two devoted cousins Charles and Rodney Goodall along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Michael Anthony Waller

Michael Anthony Waller 54, of Hanover County departed his life on January 24, 2018. He was born to the late Edward and Bernice Waller. He was preceded in death by his sister’s, Carnell Waller, Sandra Waller, and his brother, Alvin Waller.

Michael joined, Union Baptist Church, at an early age and he attended, Hanover Public School. Michael worked at Robert Brickley Industries for over five years. He was a very friendly and outgoing person who loved to party and he got along with everybody. Y’all know he loves him some pig feet.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Bernice Waller and Wendy Terry (Travis), of Richmond, Va; four brothers, James Waller, of Beaverdam, Va, Wallace Waller, of Bowling Green, Va, Edward Waller Jr. (Ernestine), of Doswell, Va, and Alvin Johnson, of Richmond, Va; one aunt, Arlena Ross, of Ashland, Va.; four uncles, Dempsey Coles and Milburn Coles, of Louisa, Va; Lawson Coles and David Waller, of Spotsylvania, Va; and one devoted friend and cousin, Earl Waller, of Spotsylvania, Va; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Homegoing service will be Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 2 p.m., at F. E. Dabney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment private.

Benjamin Franklin Taliaferro Jr.

Taliaferro, Jr., Benjamin Franklin (also known as “Benny” and “Ben, Jr.”) 64, of Ashland, Va. transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, January 21, 2018. He is preceded in death by his mother Clara H. Taliaferro, his maternal grandparents Iretha and Frank Hewlett and paternal grandparents Eleanor and James Taliaferro. He was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, Virginia where he was the founder and member of “Sounds of Faith Gospel Choir” for 36 years. He is a 1972 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended Tuskegee University and VCU.
His love for people led him to his employment at CARITAS and the Salvation Army. He was a passionate, gifted musician and phenomenal vocalist who had the opportunity to minister to various churches, organizations and celebrations throughout Virginia.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving father, Benjamin F. Taliaferro, Sr., a devoted sister Robin R. Taliaferro, uncle James H. Taliaferro; devoted cousins Diane H. Pierce, H. Charleen Baylor and Bernice Lauritta Anderson; a godson Nile Courtney and his mother Debra Webb and a host of cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, Virginia at 1:00 P.M.; Rev. M. Randall Williams, Pastor, Eulogist; Officiant, Rev. Dr. C. Diane Mosby. Viewing will be Friday, January 26, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.

William Rayfield Hooker

William Rayfield “Ray” Hooker, was born September 6,  1935 in Hanover County went from Labor to Reward on Monday, January 1st of 2018 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. Preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Larvinia Hooker; brothers, Welford and Conway Hooker.

He graduated from Gandy High School in Ashland, Va and then served in the U.S. Armed Forces. He retired from American Machine and Foundry (AMF) after twenty years of employment.  Ray was very well known throughout the surrounding counties fir hos electrical and plumbing expertise.

He was married to the late Dorothy G. Hooker.  From this union 1 daughter was born, Tina Andre Hooker; 1 devoted brother, Deacon James E. Hooker (Shirley); 2 cousins, Earl G. Winston Sr. and John “Benny” Jones (Antoinette); a host of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; a companion, Flora Cornwell; a host of friends, among them; Lawrence Campbell, James Winston. John “Sonny” Lewis, Lee “Buck” Brooks Jr., and Frank Robinson.

Homegoing services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, at 12 noon, at Abner Baptist Church, Glen Allen, VA. Interment, Roselawn.

Clara Hewlett Taliaferro

20180102_121759_1514920197483Clara Hewlett Taliaferro, 94, of Ashland, VA, departed this life on Saturday, December 30, 2017. She was born on August 5, 1923 to the late Iretha Brown Hewlett and Frank Hewlett.  She was the first of two children.  Clara was preceded in death by her brother William Frank Hewlett.

Clara was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 80 years. She served as the Head of the Willing Workers, Head of Hospitality, Head of Missionaries, a member of the Pastors Aide, and Founder of the Friendly Circle.

Clara attended Hanover Public Schools and graduated from Hanover Training School.  She then worked as a supply clerk at the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, VA until her retirement.

On February 5, 1952, Clara was joined in holy matrimony to Benjamin Taliaferro Sr.  To this union were born two children, Robin Taliaferro and Benjamin Taliaferro Jr.

Clara loved participating in church activities, shopping, and watching TV.

Clara leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 65 years, Benjamin Taliaferro Sr.; her two children, Benjamin Jr. and Robin; brother-in-law, James Taliaferro; her goddaughter/niece, Diana (Raymond); her devoted friends, Sylvia Robinson (Reynolds) and Georgia Lee Stephens; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Homegoing service is Thursday, January 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland, VA. Interment, Church Cemetery.
